How to open an elevated prompt command: Hosts File, Access Denied

Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit

Error:
Access to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ hosts was denied

Solution:
1) Start --> search box--> type: cmd.exe

2) Select cmd, and Run as admistrator

3) type: cd\windows\system32\drivers\etc

example: c:\users\johns\cd\windows\system32\drivers\etc, and press enter following this for next step

4) type: notepad hosts

5) Edit file & Save

You will use elevated Command Prompt whenever you need to do some administrative tasks.

Tip!:
  • Solution is for administrator accounts, not standard accounts. For standard accounts you will need the adminstrator account passwordto elevate prompt command
